Since I work with business owners in the SE part of the country, I end up being away from home on the road quite a bit. It usually is not quite as fun as this last trip, because Jane does not get to go with me. This time she did.
It was going to be our 14th wedding anniversary and we try and go on vacation for our anniversary every year. Since we are in the middle of trying to launch a new business venture (Suite Websites), money is not growing on tree’s, and is flowing out like a busted water pipe. So I booked her a plane ticket and gave it to her for her birthday, thinking this would be the most economical way to be able to go on vacation, combine it with a business trip so my portion would mostly be paid for.
We flew out of Phoenix on Friday afternoon. My thinking had been, “4 nights in New Orleans can kill a person”, so I chose a later flight forcing us to not have a huge amount of time to get into trouble that first night. It worked out great. We landed in NOLA, caught a cab and got to our hotel by about 9:30pm. We were both beat, so we went to bed. Not my expectation for the first night in New Orleans, but an EXCELLENT outcome. (maybe I AM getting old)
The next morning we started off with a walk through the French Quarter, and then walked out to Lafayette Square for the New Orleans Seafood festival. It was about a 15 minute trek towards the middle of the business district. It was well worth it. We got there and found about 25 food booths, 5 or so beer and booze carts, art booths, a cooking demonstration stage and giant stage with live music.
We wandered around eating our way through the samples from various local restaurants and rockin out to some pretty decent music. We finally decided to get out of the sun and went into the food Demo tent to hang out while the guys on stage were prepping food to get ready for the next presentation. I asked them if I could buy them a beer and the guy says “you mean like one of these?” He opened the refrigerator next to him that was literally filled top to bottom with beer. He asked us what we like and brought Jane and I over each a beer. That worked out better than I had hoped :).
We spent the rest of the day wandering around the French Quarter, eating, drinking, and checking out all of the art galleries. We made another early night of it with the plan of a long day on Sunday.
Jane woke up on Sunday morning and wanted to start the day with some beignets at Cafe Du Monde , and a trip to New Orleans Original Daiquiris. It was going to be a great day.
